12/31/13 New Years Day, power cords, guitar class and rescuing the cat, Day 365/ 365…

Happy New Year!!! Each new year I like to take a look at the past year and see how it went. Last Sunday our Pastor suggested that we use the Bible verse from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (New Living Translation). He said to look at each season and see how it has affected your life in the past year. For example, in a time to be born, what have you started or begun to set up, or in a time to die, what have you finished or quit doing.

“1 For everything there is a season,

a time for every activity under heaven.

2 A time to be born and a time to die.

A time to plant and a time to harvest.

3 A time to kill and a time to heal.

A time to tear down and a time to build up.

4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.

A time to grieve and a time to dance.

5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.

A time to embrace and a time to turn away.

6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.

A time to keep and a time to throw away.

7 A time to tear and a time to mend.

A time to be quiet and a time to speak.

8 A time to love and a time to hate.

A time for war and a time for peace.” (Footnote 1)

I like to be everywhere. This last year I let go of some projects that weren’t helping our family. It is tough for me to end things. Sometimes I think that if we stay with them for a little longer they will work out. I don’t want to give up too early because a lot of things dopolka all stars two squirls
take some work. Letting go of these projects has given me more time for the helpful things that I am doing.

At the beginning of December I lost the power cord for my Nook. It was fully charged so I decided to keep using it and post the entries when the power cord was found. We have found the cord. I am now keeping the cord in a desk drawer.

Monday 12.2.13 I have lost the charging cord for my cell phone and the cord for my Nook. We saw the cords last week. Luckily the kids have a cord that will work on my phone. Charging cords at our house are like sox, they keep getting lost.
Maggie had her last day of guitar today. She was releived. She liked the other students and the teachers, but wasn’t thrilled with the guitar. Her other classes don’t end until the end of the year.

Monday 12.16.13 The smaller cat got caught in Maggie’s dresser yesterday. It is a built in dresser. When Maggie pulled out the bottom drawer the cat climbed in the dresser drawer and then back behind it. We tried to call the cat to get her out, sometimes she comes when we call her. She didn’t come out this time. We tried to reach in, over the back of the drawer and get her. We couldn’t get her. Then we got their cat food dish and shook it to see if she would come out to eat. She didn’t. Next we tried the cat nip. She tried to climb out but didn’t have anything to push off of with her back legs. We gently started to close the drawer some until she was able to use the back of the dresser as a base to push off of and she was able to get out. We were all very happy that she was safe. The cat wasn’t upset by the experience because she tried to climb back in later.

This is the second time that I have written this post. I deleted the entire first draft by mistake. How frustrating…I will be saving more often in the future!!!

Tuesday 9/17/14 guitar, science experiments, yard work and gum machines, day 260/365…

I never should have said in a recent past post that life has settled into a routine with the kids in school and I hope to have things to write about. After posting that I immediately got writers block.

The kids are in school. It is going well so far…Maggie had her first test in guitar class and passed. She can do the scales. Outstanding!!! Beth is doing experiments in science class. They were given eggs and some other items and needed to make a case around the egg so that when they dropped it from about four feet it wouldn’t break. They did an experiment today about the moisture content of popcorn. I am not sure how they did the measuring of the moisture, but I do know that they measured the cooking oil and popped the popcorn. Beth talked a lot about the popcorn experiment. She thought that it was cool.

We are in the lull before the storm. Summer is over and the homework has started, but there isn’t a lot of homework yet. We are holding our breath waiting for the calendar to fill up.

We started the fall yard work. We cut back the front hedges, and trimmed the flowers and the bushes in the back yard. Our yard isn’t big, but it always takes longer that we thought it would. It is best when William cuts the front hedges. When I cut them, they always look like eye brows.

Here is a gum machine that my kids like.
