6/1/16 Maggie’s classes…

Maggie needs to set up her orientation at college. She wants to call from home when I am around, but she doesn’t come home until ten at night. Today I went over and got her between classes to have her call from my cell phone, then she can go back in and study more. When she called they were already closed. We decided that she would need to find where they are located and schedule orientation in person. She doesn’t have a cell hone to call on. She is  going to try to find the office tomorrow.

Maggie had some finals last week. She was suppose to have a final last Wednesday. When I picked her up, she said that the final was never posted to the schools website for her to take it. She emailed the teacher to get more information. Today she said that the test would be posted later this week and she was OK. She has taken two finals and handed in one eleven page paper.
She has two finals left to take.  We should know by the end of this week or the beginning of next week if she passed all of her classes. She must pass everything to graduate.

5/30/16 pretest, meetings and break…

William’s e-mail still isn’t working so he had the employment agency send the test to my e-mail. He took the test, but when he was done it was too late to call them. He can call tomorrow.
I need to ask Maggie how her meeting with the entrepreneurship teacher went. Did he open up the first test? She joined the class late and missed the first test. She needs to take this test and pass it to be able to pass the class.
Beth has break next week. I emailed her math teacher to ask if Beth can do assessments in math over the break. Her math is online. After either ten hours or so many topics, the computer gives them a test or assessment to see of they understand the work. The assessments can only be done at school. Then if the kids are having someone else do their math at home, the teachers can see the students work on the tests. This makes sense, but Beth is very far behind. She needs the whole spring break to catch up. If the computer stops her after ten hours, the rest of the break would be wasted. I am not trying to take away her break, I just want her to pass math.

5/28/16 math class, passports and ID’s…

Good news! Today Maggie’s math teacher opened up all of the old math tests for her to complete. He told her that if there was any that she couldn’t remember how to do to please stop and ask him for help. Woo-hoo!!! She will need to pass all of these tests to pass the class. We are so happy that they are opened.
We got Maggie’s state ID today. She needed one to get her passport. The passport place closes at three so we will go tomorrow. Her senior class is trying to decide if they want to take a cruse for their senior trip. If they do, they may all need  passports. We have decided to get the passport while they are deciding if they want to go on the trip. Passports take a while to get and we don’t want Maggie to not be able to go if they decide at the last minute and she can’t get hers in time.
I want to get Beth a State ID. She doesn’t need one but she is 17 and doesn’t have a drivers license. If we ever need an ID for her, she will already haven one. She will be so happy, it will make her feel so grown up.
How old were you when you got your drivers license?

5/27/16 classes, resumes and old tests…

Maggie tried to apply at the college for her major but the computer wouldn’t let her. She called admissions, they said that because she has applied to the University as undecided she can’t add her major online. They added her major over the phone, and they said to go in in a few days and sign up for orientation.
William called the employment agency today to check on the application that he sent in on Friday. They didn’t have it. They said that he had to use outlook instead of chrome so there computer can see it. He tried to re-enter his resume using chrome but the computer wouldn’t take it. William called the agency again and they took his information over the phone. They will e-mail him a questionnaire to fill out and send back. After that William can talk to them about jobs.
Maggie’s teachers from her two classes that she had added have not opened up the work on the computer that was given before Maggie was officially in their classes. Yesterday Maggie was to talk to the math teacher but she didn’t feel well so she didn’t ask him if he could open up the old tests. She had a meeting at 3:30 today with the entrepreneurship teacher to take the first test. If Maggie can’t take all of these old tests she won’t pass these classes and she will not graduate from high school. When I got there I sent her back in so that she could make a new appointment. The professor was in his office.
When Maggie got her class schedule fixed, we had all hoped that everything was fixed. We are still hyperventilating.

1/31/14 warmer days and meetings, Day 31/365…

We had a wind chill of zero today. It actually felt warm. It has been about five degrees with a wind chill of negative twenty to forty all week. The schools were closed. It was the kind of weather where you would get out your winter gloves and hope that the radio station plays all of your favorite songs. It was too cold to take the gloves off to change the station and the gloves are too large to leave on and change the station. Beth was upset that school was closed, she loves school…really she loves seeing all of her friends. She spent a lot of time on Facebook with her friends and on U-tube listening to her music.

We have a parent student teacher meeting tonight at Maggie’s school to look at the kids progress. We get our kids transcripts and see if they are on schedule. It is good to get together once a year with the counselor and Maggie to see if she is on track. Maggie is starting to look a lot at applying for scholarships.

1/30/14 art class and shoveling, Day 30/365…

Maggie is taking an art class. Last weekend her assignment was to draw something. She set up a few items in the living room and began to draw. She started with a tea pot and a cup, but decided that they would be too difficult to draw. She changed to a can of food and a bowl. The cats climbed all over the items that she was drawing and all over her paper. They need to be the center of all of the activities. Finally we put the cats in a bedroom. When we went to check on the cats, they escaped. We only have two cats, but they can be in every room all at one time. 1293 1302

Last weekend we went outside to shovel the snow. We also shoveled for one elderly neighbor. We used to have three elderly neighbors to shovel for, but unfortunately two of them passed away. Our drives aren’t that long so shoveling for a few neighbors doesn’t take that much time. What do you do on the weekends?

If you like what you have read, please come back tomorrow!

1/25/14 catching up and having friends over, Day 25/365…

Last night I made a list of all of the things that we need to get done…from the kids doing homework, to people that I need to e-mail to making lunches for next week. Last week we were just holding on. With Maggie’s deadline for projects at school and all of the cold weather we didn’t get any extra things done. I need to catch up before I get buried. Maggie did get her projects in on Friday.

Maggie and Beth had a friend stay the night last night. They watched movies and made brownies. Now that the kids are older I have them make brownies whenever they have a friend over. It gives them something to do…and eat. They like to talk about the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse. The topic of how they will defend themselves and where they will live is very fascinating to them. They must all watch the same shows, because they are always in agreement on how to stay alive. It’s also nice for them to have a friend over because the kids help with the housework without whimpering.

When my kids were little we had a lot of kids living on this street. We took turns having the kids over so the kids had a sleep over almost every weekend. It was so easy since all of the kids lived right here. They would come over after dinner and in the morning we just needed to open the door and the kids could walk across the street to their own house. Having all of the kids around really brought us together as a neighborhood.

Thanks for stopping by. If you like my blog, please stop in again tomorrow!!!

1/23/14 back to school, weather changes and senior events, Day 23/365…

Beth is so glad to be back at school. She loves seeing all of her friends. The kids were on break for Christmas which was at least two weeks long. Then they were off for the bad weather. Then they had finals week where they only had school for half days that week. Then they were off for Martin Luther King Jr. day on Monday, the teachers had an in-service day on Tuesday and the kids had a two hour delay on Wednesday. She is glad that there aren’t any more vacations planned soon. It is tough to be a very social person with all of this vacation.

It was about two degrees today. It has been cold for a while. When I was young it stayed cold and snowy all winter. Lately it has been back and forth between cold and warm. When the temperatures changes a lot between cold and warm we end up with a lot of ice on the roads. This year we have had a lot of cold weather. The steady cold weather does mean that we don’t have the ice on the roads.

Maggie applied for her two scholarships today. They are due at school by tomorrow. She needed her grade point average to finish applying for them.

1/22/14 senior year wrap-up, Day 22/365…

Maggie is a senior. The crunch is on. She has a lot of homework to do, but she also has a lot “senior” work to do to. She needs letters of recommendation from her teachers. The teachers want a list of her clubs / accomplishments and volunteer work so that they can write correct letters. Maggie can use these letters when she signs up for scholarships. She also needs to apply for two scholarships by this Friday. The students are required to do this so that they have had practice while an adviser is there to help. She is signed up to take the ACT already and she has finished her volunteer hours and cultural events and turned them into her adviser. The senior group picture is scheduled for this Friday. She talked to the counselor today to make sure that she hasn’t missed anything.

Maggie is very calm about all of the work that needs to be done. I am so worried that we will miss something. What are your projects that you are doing with your kids this year?

Thanks for stopping by! Come back tomorrow and see what new adventures we have found!!!

1/20/14 family pictures, Day 20/365…

I just went through some family pictures to try to find things to write about. The kids have only been back in school a week but we are already in a routine. Routines don’t make interesting blog posts. I love looking at the old pictures. There are so many memories. Sometimes we get out the boxes of pictures and go through them. Two of the kids have made small albums of their favorite pictures to keep in their rooms. When William graduated from high school he said that he was going to go away to school. I made a photo album for him to take. I was going to take a tape recorder and record all of us talking…maybe one night at dinner…when the kids didn’t know that I was recording. Then if he got homesick he would have the pictures and the recording. In the end he didn’t go away to college so I didn’t make the recording. I probably should. It would be nice to have their voices on tape for me to listen to someday when they all move out.
