10/4/16 job hunting, walks and projects…

William is still looking for a job. We have started applying for him at the businesses right by our house and will work our way away in a big circle. We copied a map.of town and enlarged the area around our house and are highlighting where we have applied. Pizza Hut called yesterday. They had gotten his application and wanted to see if he had a driver’s license. He said no. The lady told William that they would keep his application on file and might be hiring in the kitchen when the weather gets colder.
Maggie is in college. She is not struggling but it is not easy. She does like school. She needs to join a club. She needs some friends. I think that she needs to join a club, but Maggie is an introvert and thinks that she is fine, This weekend she may go volunteer with some students that are also in Environmental Science. She is bringing home the information on where and when. Maggie is still making a lot of dragons out of rubber bands. She really enjoys making them. In one of her classes she has met a boy. It is her intro to Environmental Science class. The class is only a half of a semester. Maggie says that this boy is just like William. The class went for a walk around campus to look at trees. The teacher showed different kinds of trees and interesting facts about the campus. The boy gave Maggie some twigs. Maggie tossed the twigs back at him and he gave her some leaves, which she tossed back at him too. Maggie decided that he is a lot like William, her brother. His back pack has a solar panel on it and he acts and talks like William. Maggie decided to tell the boy one of William’s jokes. The boy thought that she was the funniest person that he had ever met. She had a good walk around the campus.
Beth has gotten her senior project. She has been so worried. If the project is something that you don’t want to do, it makes a long year. The students had a choice between taking a laser pointer and making it into a game, something else and making a cage around a new robot that the school is getting. One of the arms on the robot is about six feet long. They also need to decide where in the room to place the robot and where to move everything else that had been in that spot. She wanted the robot and got it. Woo Hoo!

5/29/16 senior trip and passports…

I went to Maggie’s senior class parents meeting today. The leader wanted to know if the kids and their families still wanted to go on the senior trip to the Caribbean/Bahamas. No one said yes or no. She said that not enough people were participating in the fund raisers. Only eight of the thirty-three families are participating. It doesn’t look like that kids will be going on this trip, but they haven’t cancelled it either.
I don’t think that Maggie will be upset if her class doesn’t go on the cruse. She will be thrilled if they go somewhere. She would like to go to Cedar Point.
Did your senior class go on a senior trip?

1/31/14 warmer days and meetings, Day 31/365…

We had a wind chill of zero today. It actually felt warm. It has been about five degrees with a wind chill of negative twenty to forty all week. The schools were closed. It was the kind of weather where you would get out your winter gloves and hope that the radio station plays all of your favorite songs. It was too cold to take the gloves off to change the station and the gloves are too large to leave on and change the station. Beth was upset that school was closed, she loves school…really she loves seeing all of her friends. She spent a lot of time on Facebook with her friends and on U-tube listening to her music.

We have a parent student teacher meeting tonight at Maggie’s school to look at the kids progress. We get our kids transcripts and see if they are on schedule. It is good to get together once a year with the counselor and Maggie to see if she is on track. Maggie is starting to look a lot at applying for scholarships.

1/25/14 catching up and having friends over, Day 25/365…

Last night I made a list of all of the things that we need to get done…from the kids doing homework, to people that I need to e-mail to making lunches for next week. Last week we were just holding on. With Maggie’s deadline for projects at school and all of the cold weather we didn’t get any extra things done. I need to catch up before I get buried. Maggie did get her projects in on Friday.

Maggie and Beth had a friend stay the night last night. They watched movies and made brownies. Now that the kids are older I have them make brownies whenever they have a friend over. It gives them something to do…and eat. They like to talk about the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse. The topic of how they will defend themselves and where they will live is very fascinating to them. They must all watch the same shows, because they are always in agreement on how to stay alive. It’s also nice for them to have a friend over because the kids help with the housework without whimpering.

When my kids were little we had a lot of kids living on this street. We took turns having the kids over so the kids had a sleep over almost every weekend. It was so easy since all of the kids lived right here. They would come over after dinner and in the morning we just needed to open the door and the kids could walk across the street to their own house. Having all of the kids around really brought us together as a neighborhood.

Thanks for stopping by. If you like my blog, please stop in again tomorrow!!!

1/23/14 back to school, weather changes and senior events, Day 23/365…

Beth is so glad to be back at school. She loves seeing all of her friends. The kids were on break for Christmas which was at least two weeks long. Then they were off for the bad weather. Then they had finals week where they only had school for half days that week. Then they were off for Martin Luther King Jr. day on Monday, the teachers had an in-service day on Tuesday and the kids had a two hour delay on Wednesday. She is glad that there aren’t any more vacations planned soon. It is tough to be a very social person with all of this vacation.

It was about two degrees today. It has been cold for a while. When I was young it stayed cold and snowy all winter. Lately it has been back and forth between cold and warm. When the temperatures changes a lot between cold and warm we end up with a lot of ice on the roads. This year we have had a lot of cold weather. The steady cold weather does mean that we don’t have the ice on the roads.

Maggie applied for her two scholarships today. They are due at school by tomorrow. She needed her grade point average to finish applying for them.

1/22/14 senior year wrap-up, Day 22/365…

Maggie is a senior. The crunch is on. She has a lot of homework to do, but she also has a lot “senior” work to do to. She needs letters of recommendation from her teachers. The teachers want a list of her clubs / accomplishments and volunteer work so that they can write correct letters. Maggie can use these letters when she signs up for scholarships. She also needs to apply for two scholarships by this Friday. The students are required to do this so that they have had practice while an adviser is there to help. She is signed up to take the ACT already and she has finished her volunteer hours and cultural events and turned them into her adviser. The senior group picture is scheduled for this Friday. She talked to the counselor today to make sure that she hasn’t missed anything.

Maggie is very calm about all of the work that needs to be done. I am so worried that we will miss something. What are your projects that you are doing with your kids this year?

Thanks for stopping by! Come back tomorrow and see what new adventures we have found!!!

Tuesday 11/19/13 school, Day 323/ 365…

This week has been quieter. Maggie has been staying later at school. She is a senior and the work is getting harder and there is more of it. We bring home Beth and later I go back for Maggie. We usually have dinner together at the table, but it isn’t possible. We also haven’t been doing our devotional at dinner since we are eating at different times. We should do the devotional with the kids that are home and again later when Maggie is here. With teenagers schedules we are always making adjustments.

Thursday 9/26/13 senior year, day 269/365…

Maggie is now a senior in high school. We went to parent conferences tonight. Conferences always worry me. Overall my kids do OK, but week to week or even month to month as the homework and projects come and go, the grades are all over the place. This conference also included all of the things that are needed for her to graduate. It is not a long list, but I am concerned that if we miss something that only occurs once in the year, she may not be able to graduate. She took her ACT test last year, but she needs to take it again this year. She can take the SAT, but it is optional. She needs to schedule her classes next month for the next semester. She must get all of the ones that she needs to have enough credits of English, math…We need to find some baby pictures of Maggie. They have a slide show at graduation of the graduates and have current pictures and baby pictures. Her volunteer hours and cultural events for this semester are due December 9th. We added all of these things to the calendar. We need to look for baby pictures for Beth too. We will need them for next year.

Here is a picture of a fire hose. I know that my pictures don’t have anything to do with the post. Maybe someday they will, but for now they are just fun pictures. fire hose
